04 – 14.10.18 | Afrovibes – The land is ours

Dozens of performing and visual artists, musicians, poets and DJ’s will occupy stages in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Rotterdam to explore issues of earth, land and climate.

“As the earth becomes more and more vulnerable, as our temperatures become warmer and we experience severe swings in climate, artists have taken to the arts to help us feel and think about this issues”, Afrovibes’ artistic director Jay Pather (South Africa) writes in an introduction to this year’s programme. And what a programme! Opening on Thursday 4 October in the Compagnie Theater in Amsterdam, the festival presents an explosion of high quality productions, debates and exhibitions. Just to mention a few. In Womb of Fire (picture) Rehane Abrahams shows women’s power resisting colonial oppression. In Black Tie – Missionary Position Lesiba Mabitsela, Abdul Debe and Xclusive Company fashion and manhood are being explored in diverse cultural contexts.

And there is so much more. Check the festival programme here and make your way to one of the theatres hosting the 15th edition of Afrovibes.
