Hamza Idris

Hamza Idris is a Fellow of the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ, 2013); Alumnus of the Professional Fellows Programme (Washington D.C Spring 2013) and a participant of the Peace Mediation Course (Switzerland, 2015).

Currently he is the Politics Editor at the Daily Trust Newspapers, Nigeria and had worked for the company for ten years in the volatile North-eastern region of the country, between 2005 and 2015 in various capacities, including reporter, correspondent, Acting Bureau Chief and Bureau Chief.

In 2011 he received the “Award of Excellence” (Overall best in Editorial) of the newspaper, and authored over 3,500 published articles on politics, economy, women, children and the Boko Haram crisis- the worst security challenge facing Nigeria.

He has freelanced for the New York Times and the AFP and had travelled to Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Turkey, Indonesia, United States of America, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Dubai among others in the course of my job.
