Dear Reader,

Our stories, investigations and events bring you the best in African journalism, photography, arts & opinion.

The 700+ members of our network of African creatives want you to know what impact these stories generate in addressing crucial issues. Your support is vital to their work!

Only last week the Centre of Research of Multinational Co-operations (SOMO) confirmed the conclusions of an investigation into the bad practices of Fairtrade in the West-African cocoa industry, published in ZAM five years ago. A week earlier, the Better Care Network of international charities launched a call to stop ‘voluntourism’ in the ‘orphan industry’. Anas Aremeyah Anas' story The Orphanage Industrial Complex, written for ZAM by in 2015, is an early testimony of bad practices finally being tackled. And the list goes on.

ZAM does not stop with often mind-blowing reports and revelations. Our stories feed activism for change; our collaborations with African colleagues are key to the development of solidarity based on the principles of equality and self-determination. Introducing arts and photography from the continent has evidently opened established, often lily-white artistic temples. Remember Zanele Muholi?

Zanele’s donation of Thabile, Parktown, 2015 to ZAM is a gesture of appreciation for our work for which we are grateful. Will you join Zanele and become a Friend of ZAM? Together we will build a world beyond them and us.
