Bringing together African change makers, Dutch activists and the diaspora in a joint event of solidarity.

On Monday 20 November the ZAM studio in Amsterdam was packed. In the presence of Keval Harie, director of the Gays and Lesbians Memory in Action (GALA) archives in Johannesburg and co-editor Makhosazana Xaba, we launched the exciting Queer Africa 2: New Stories. This collection brings together 26 fiction and non-fiction stories on queer identity from seven African countries and offers refreshing new insights into the life of African queers.

At the launch Keval and Makhosazana shared their personal experiences whilst making this book and also shared excerpts from the featured stories. Audience as well as hosts felt excited to enter this new terrain in African storytelling; and ZAM felt proud that it had once again brought together African change makers, Dutch activists and Africans living in the diaspora in a joint event of solidarity.

‘Nine pieces of desire, a story from Queer Africa’ by Kenyan author Idza L, was published by ZAM to accompany the event. Read it here.
