Uitnodiging – Opening Between Here and Now
ZAM Magazine en Open Art Exchange nodigen je van harte uit voor de opening van de tentoonstelling en de Glitching the Future livestream symposium.
Between Here and Now
11 – 19 oktober 2025 bij Open Art Exchange
Hoogstraat 85, Schiedam, Nederland
Between Here and Now is een multidisciplinaire tentoonstelling van Afrikaanse kunstenaars binnen en buiten de Afrikaanse diaspora. Het “now” betreft de actuele ervaring van migratie en verbondenheid, maar bekijkt ook hoe geschiedenis en toekomst doorklinken in het heden. Thema’s als identiteit, migratie, gemeenschap en toekomstverbeelding worden onderzocht in een brede variatie van media. Bezoekers worden uitgenodigd onderdeel te worden van dit levendige werk en de veelkleurigheid van deze verhalen in het hier en nu te ervaren.
Heidi Thembeka Sincuba toont Quantum Afterlife, nieuw werk dat speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling is gemaakt met als thema het Afro-quantumdenken. Fotograaf Farren van Wyk presenteert haar Mixedness is my Mythology-serie, waarin persoonlijke en collectieve identiteiten in de diaspora worden verkend. De ook speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling geschreven poëzie van Julia-Beth Harris vormt een verbindende draad.
Voorts zijn er werken van Anton Corbijn/Berend Strik, Casca, Clifford Charles, Patricia Kaersenhout, Patrick Musombwa, Rafiy Okefolahan en Ruan Hoffman.
Bij de feestelijke opening presenteren we bovendien het Glitching the Future symposium en de “DJ Glitching” demo live vanuit het Fak’ugesi Digital Innovation Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dit livestream-symposium, gemodereerd door Heidi Thembeka Sincuba, met een dubbelpanel zowel in de galerie als in Johannesburg, gebruikt sonics als rode draad voor gesprek, praktijk en performance. Muziek, klank en digitale cultuur doorbreken dominante narratieven en brengen collectieve transformatie op gang. Met Live DJ Demo van Pussy Party in Johannesburg!
Tijdens de hele tentoonstelling is de ZAM winkel open, met kunstwerken uit de Art for ZAM collectie te koop. En voor wie op zoek is naar een mooi cadeau, zijn er ook posters, boeken en Glitching the Future artikelen in de aanbieding.

“Between Here and Now” is a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring African artists from within and beyond the African diaspora. The "now" concerns the current experience of migration and connection but also examines how history and the future resonate in the present. Themes such as identity, migration, community, and imagination of the future are explored in a wide variety of media. Visitors are invited to become part of this vibrant work and experience the rich diversity of these stories.
Heidi Thembeka Sincuba presents Quantum Afterlife, new work created specifically for this exhibition, which explores Afro-quantum thinking. Photographer Farren van Wyk presents her Mixedness is my Mythology series, which explores personal and collective identities within the diaspora. Poetry by Julia-Beth Harris, written especially for this exhibition, acts as a connecting thread, guiding visitors through the stories and works.

At the festive opening, we will also present the Glitching the Future symposium and the “DJ Glitching” demo live from the Fak’ugesi Digital Innovation Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa. This livestreamed symposium, moderated by Heidi Thembeka Sincuba, with a double panel both in the gallery and in Johannesburg, uses sonic elements as a common thread for conversation, practice, and performance. Music, sound, and digital culture disrupt dominant narratives and spark collective transformation. Featuring a Live DJ Demo by Pussy Party in Johannesburg!
The ZAM shop will be open throughout the exhibition, with artworks from the Art for ZAM collection for sale. For those looking for a great gift, posters, books, and Glitching the Future merchandise will also be on sale.
