Recognition and awards for changemakers and creatives in Accra, Maputo, Mogadishu and Johannesburg.

Mozambican photographer Mario Macilau, whose book Growing in Darkness was launched at the ZAM studio in Amsterdam only weeks ago, was elected Michael Dukakis Leadership Fellow at Harvard University, USA. He is also a finalist for the 2016 International Photography Award Emergentes in Portugal.

Accra-based investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, whose enquiry into the corrupt practices of almost 30 judges in Ghana led to their suspension, was 'crowned' Best Journalist of the Year 2015 at the 21st Ghana Journalist Awards.

South African photographer Zanele Muholi, whose latest work is covered in the ZAM Photo Editions is winner of the International Centre for Photography's 2016 Infinity Award for Documentary & Photojournalism.

And, last but not least, Somali investigative journalist Muno Gedi was elected Vice-President of the 'Banadir Union of Journalists’. Read one of her articles in ZAM here.
