An exciting position with a dynamic platform for the stories of African creatives and innovators. ZAM is also the organiser of the annual Nelson Mandela Lecture.

1 - About ZAM
We bring the stories, insights and perspectives of independent African creatives and innovators in investigative journalism, photography, art and opinion to the attention of a growing international audience. Imbued with the urgency and universal significance of these stories, ZAM seeks to change the conversation through digital and print publications, events, meetings and facilitations.
ZAM is rooted in the Dutch solidarity movements with the struggles against apartheid and colonialism. Motivated by ideals of equality and self-determination ZAM, together with its network of over 1200+ African makers, is building a world beyond us and them.
In the short term, ZAM intends to develop a multi-year plan aimed at creating greater visibility, reach and impact for our publications and events, as well as establishing a stable foundation both in terms of operations and funding. As part of this process, ZAM is looking for a director to take over the central tasks of the current coordinator.
2 - The position
This is a freelance appointment of approximately 36 hours per week starting December 1, 2022.
ZAM offers an honorarium in accordance with the rates applicable within the cultural sector. This will be determined in consultation.
3 - Tasks and responsibilities
He/she/they will
- Lead the organisation and take care of people and resources, programming and policy implementation, managing a small but dedicated team of freelance staff
- Takes care of the development and implementation of a multi-year plan, making use of the broad appreciation for the work of ZAM and the knowledge, experience and connections stored within the organisation and its network. Your actions are strategic and sustainable;
-Realises a clear positioning, expansion and marketing of our present creative output, and growth in income sources, programs and partners;
-Is responsible for the implementation of activities aimed at fundraising and the creation of a sustainable financial base;
-Provide information to the financial management of the organisation for reporting, annual budgeting, annual reporting and financial statements.

- You have a strong affinity with the objectives and working areas of ZAM, an affinity with developments on the African continent and in the Diaspora, a business instinct and the ability to operate strategically;
- You are a doer with a strong track record when it comes to the successful realisation of projects for organisations or business institutions;
-You have an energetic personality; your approach enthuses and connects and your coaching leadership provides employees with confidence and autonomy; -You have an extensive (professional) network of connections, preferably in cultural and Afropean circuits;
-You have a good command of the Dutch and English languages.

Een spannende functie bij een dynamische organisatie, platform van verhalen van Afrikaanse vernieuwers en organisator van de jaarlijkse Nelson Mandela Lezing.
1 – Over ZAM
De Stichting ZAM-net (‘ZAM’) brengt de verhalen, inzichten en perspectieven van onafhankelijke Afrikaanse creatieven en vernieuwers in de onderzoeksjournalistiek, fotografie, kunst en opinie onder de aandacht van een groeiend, internationaal publiek. Doordrongen van de urgentie en universele betekenis van deze verhalen, vervult ZAM zijn rol in (online) publicaties, evenementen, ontmoetingen en facilitaties. ZAM is geworteld in de Nederlandse solidariteitsbewegingen met de strijd tegen apartheid en kolonialisme. Gemotiveerd door de idealen van gelijkwaardigheid en zelfbeschikking, bouwt ZAM samen met zijn netwerk van ruim 1200+ Afrikaanse makers aan een wereld voorbij wij-en-zij.
ZAM wil op korte termijn een meerjarenplan ontwikkelen gericht op grotere zichtbaarheid, bereik en impact alsmede een stabiel (financieel) fundament. Voor de verdere inrichting en implementatie van dit plan zoekt ZAM op korte termijn een directeur die de centrale taken van de huidige coordinator overneemt.
2 – De functie
Het gaat om een freelance aanstelling van bij voorkeur 36 uur per week vanaf 1 december 2022.
ZAM biedt een honorarium conform de binnen de culturele sector geldende tarieven en wordt in overleg definitief vastgesteld.
3 – Taken en verantwoordelijkheden
Hij/zij/hen
-Leidt de organisatie en draagt zorg voor mensen en middelen, programmering en uitvoering van beleid en stuurt een klein maar toegewijd team van freelance medewerkers aan;
- Draagt zorg voor de ontwikkeling en implementatie van een meerjarenplan en gebruikt daarbij de brede waardering voor het werk van ZAM en de kennis, ervaring en connecties opgeslagen binnen het netwerk van de organisatie; - Werkt aan een heldere positionering, uitbreiding en vermarkten van het creatieve aanbod en groei in inkomstenbronnen en partners;,br/>- Is verantwoordelijk voor de aanpak van activiteiten gericht op fondsenwerving en de creatie van een duurzaam financieel draagvlak;
- Levert aan het financiële management van de organisatie de informatie ten behoeve van verslaglegging, jaarbegroting, jaarverslag en jaarrekening.
4 – Wat breng je mee?
- Je hebt een sterke affiniteit met de doelstellingen en werkterreinen van ZAM, affiniteit met journalistiek en met ontwikkelingen op het Afrikaanse continent en in de diaspora, een zakelijk instinct en het vermogen om strategisch te opereren;
- Je bent een doener met een sterk trackrecord als het gaat om de succesvolle realisatie van projecten voor organisaties of zakelijke instellingen. Je strategisch handelen is gericht op duurzaamheid;
- Je hebt een energieke persoonlijkheid, je aanpak enthousiasmeert en verbindt en je coachende leiderschap biedt medewerkers vertrouwen en autonomie;
- Je beschikt over een uitgebreid (professioneel) netwerk van connecties, bij voorkeur in culturele en Afropese circuits;
- Een beschikt over een goede beheersing van de Nederlands en Engelse taal.
